DHEAS Benefits Seriously Questioned

Summary: Dehydroepiandrosone (DHEAS) has received much attention due to alleged benefits for slowing several aging processes.Using a randomized, double blind, cross over controlled study,these benefits were put to the test. The 9 month study included 39 healthy older men men who received replacement dose DHEA. Lean body mass, hematology, chemistry , endocrine laboratory and psychological testing values were measured. The only significant associations were mild and temporary endocrine and blood chemistry changes during the first 3 months following oral dose of 100mg DHEA. All values returned to normal after 3 months of no treatment. Sense of well being and improved sexual functioning were not improved in this study.
Comment: No effect, except a monetary shift with some pockets lighter and others heavier.
