Insulin Resistance Does Not Make it Harder to Lose Weight
Title: Differences in insulin resitance do not predict weight loss in response to hypocaloric diets in healthy ,obese, non-diabetic women
Author: T. McLaughlin et al.

Summary: Thirty two overweight healthy non diabetic women entered this study to determine whether insulin resistance and/or hyperinsulinemia affected the ability of obese individuals to lose weight on a hypocaloric diet. After baseline measurements to determine insulin resistance and look at insulin response, the women were placed on a diet calculated for a weekly loss of 1% of ideal weight. Individuals that met this criteria after 30 days were counted as successes and continued on for 30 more days. Those that failed to meet this weight loss criteria were considered failures and terminated from the study. The results revealed equal numbers of patients with insulin sensitivity and insulin resistance in both success and failure groups. In the success group(n=20) the mean weight loss was 9.2+ 0.4 kg. The authors concluded that weight loss ability on a hypocaloric diet over a short period of time does not vary in obese, healthy,non-diabetic women as a function of insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia.
Comment: I hope this is wrong, at least in theory. I tend to believe that patients withinsulin resistance lose weight with more difficulty and gain it with ease.
